Blackboard fall 2000 faculty survey and interview results

UT Austin selected the courseware product Blackboard in the summer of 2000 as a component of the campus-wide initiative to provide easy access to Internet-based services to support teaching, learning, and research. The product was made available to a pilot group of faculty at the beginning of the Fall 2000 semester. The report that follows, based on a Web-based survey and personal interviews, summarizes the reaction of faculty and staff to the software and its implementation at the University of Texas at Austin. The value of the study lies largely in its anecdotal responses rather than its statistical analysis. Comments made by named and anonymous instructors provided information about their specific needs for an online product. This information has been and continues to be used to improve the functionality of Blackboard course Websites and determine necessary levels of training and support.
