Thirty respondents, representing almost half of the sample, provided comments that supplement the data collected from the objective questions. A nearly equal number of positive and negative comments were received. Feedback ranged from the typical positive response "I liked Blackboard and hope to learn how to use more of its features in the future" to " The worst problems are reliability and slow response." One faculty member admitted  "Instead of helping it was a time drain" while another said "I have greatly benefited from using Blackboard this semester and hope to learn how to use more of its features in the future."

The most frequent positive comments addressed how Blackboard carried the "administrative burden." Several indicated how much they liked the tool.

The most frequent negative comments centered on slow response times and reliability issues. Others had to do with poor course backup and archiving capabilities, an inadequate grade book, and data issues.

The comment that best represents how most appeared to use Blackboard was

" I used Blackboard for quite basic stuff - making copies of syllabi, exam questions, reading questions, and lecture outlines available to all students all the time. None of that was very complicated, so I never stretched the capacities of the system. Nonetheless, it was very helpful to me.."

As in the previous semester, much of the correspondence between Courseware staff and Blackboard users throughout the semester centered on defining classes and Web sites and reconciling data issues.

All comments to the final question are presented in Appendix B.
