Students with restricted information

Who are the JDOE's listed in my class roster? Students who have restricted their personal information from the UT Electronic Directory or other publication will appear in the Blackboard listing as DOE,J (for John or Jane Doe).
To track these students, you need to be aware of the following:
-
You cannot tell from within Blackboard who the DOE,J students are. You may be able to figure that out from the paper class rosters you get, but you cannot tell who a person is from Blackboard.
-
The DOE,J students will not have valid e-mail addresses either. Thus, they will not receive messages sent to the entire class.
-
If multiple users in your class have restricted their information, Blackboard numbers them and keeps track of the DOE,J assignments, so that DOE37,J is always the same person.
The JDOE's are not aware of their anonymous user id, so they cannot inform you which number they are until they determine what their anonymous id number is. They will be able to do this when they participate in a chat room or if they post a message to a discussion board. Both of these tools display the user name when a message has been entered.
Remember that an electronic course is not analogous to the physical classroom; rather, it is considered a collection of electronic records, similar to the electronic directory, and is subject to the same rules. Faculty and staff (unless they are also students) cannot restrict their information in Blackboard.
