Blackboard tutorials: Copying courses from Blackboard 6
Go to Navigation

In this tutorial, you will learn how to export your Blackboard 6 course and import that file into a new course in Blackboard 7.

NOTE: In Blackboard 7, only instructors of record are able to import materials from their previous courses. This includes the process of copying materials from Blackboard 6 courses to Blackboard 7 courses. Teaching Assistants are unable to perform this function.

The following tutorial begins in the Control Panel area of your Blackboard 6 course, which only Instructors and their designated Teaching Assistants can access. The Blackboard 6 courses can be found at http://oldcourses.utexas.edu.

1. In the Control Panel area under Course Options, click on Export Course.

2. On the Export Course page, click on the selection boxes to select the material to include in the export package.

3. Click the Submit button to continue.

4. A content receipt will be displayed. In the sentence under the word Receipt, right click on the link provided to download the exported course site.

5. When prompted, choose to Save the archive. Use the Save as dialogue box to select a location to store the archive on the computer you are working on. Do not unzip this file. You will upload this zipped file in the next part of this tutorial.

To upload the archive you have just created, log into Blackboard 7 and access the Control Panel of your new course.

1. Under Course Options, click on Import Package.

2. On the Import Package page in the Select a Package area, click on the Browse button.

3.Navigate to the previously saved archive file, and click the Open button.

4.In the Course Materials section, click on the boxes to the left to select the materials you want to include in the import process.

5.Click the Submit button to finish importing your course.
Note: It is best to let the window continue to process even if it looks like it is stuck on 100% or something else. Do not click on anything else until you receive a message saying that you have been successful.

Course archives are condidered Category 1 data and as such must follow the UT System rules. One option for storing course archives is to upload them to your webspace account and then delete them from your computer.
