Title:
Java Applets for Complex Fluid Flow Simulations
Faculty Adviser:
Spyros Kinnas
Student:
Lino Bailey
Project Description:
We propose that we develop a new class of Java applets to simulate realistic
geometries and flow conditions. The complex simulations will be performed
using state-of-the-art computational methods which can handle arbitrary
geometries and flow conditions. The flow domain will be disretized into
cells and the related Navier-Stokes equations will be solved using an
interactive method until convergence. The solution (pressure distributions,
flow field) will be presented on the screen via contour or vector plots.
This class of applets will make for the first time complex flow simulators
available on the Web. The students will be exposed to realistic flow conditions
and comprehend the material beyond the limited simplified situations.
In addition the users will get to know state-of-the-art computational
techniques to help them in their design decisions during their professional
careers.
