Campus-wide, UT Austin
offers Blackboard which is designed to enable faculty
to create a Web site with a syllabus and resource materials, incorporate
online discussion groups and chat sessions, to build a variety of online
course components, and use class management features of the software. The
tools are created for ease of use, and require minimal knowledge of HTML.
CIT has trained staff dedicated to providing support of Blackboard
for
any faculty member who wishes to use it for a course.
UT
Blackboard support site
UT Austin is now integrating Blackboard course management software
with UT Direct, the student portal. It enables faculty and students to
communicate and collaborate through real-time chats, threaded discussions,
and online file exchanges. Instructors can create and manage course Web
sites without having to know HTML, and in addition, it allows faculty
to evaluate and measure student progress. UT Austin started implementation
with a pilot group of core courses in the fall 2000 semester, and is offering
training through the CIT for faculty and staff who want to make use of
the software.
