Selection Process for a Radio Frequency (RF) Response SystemAt a meeting convened by DIIA in December 2004, technology deans, support staff, and instructors considered new classroom response systems with improved radio frequency technology. The associate dean for information technology in the College of Natural Sciences tasked participants to recommend one product so that the university could avoid added expense for students and overhead for staff to support multiple systems. Faculty members determined a set of preferred features during two additional meetings in spring 2005, deeming a product with a functional LCD screen to be essential. During 2006, over 1000 students in 15 classes used one of five systems made available to instructors and staff to evaluate in their classes, so that pads and receivers could be in place for the fall semester of 2006. In spring 2006, only CPS and PRS featured LCD screens. After 18 months of study, DIIA recommended CPS because it offers seamless Blackboard integration, easy roster management that allows students to auto-join sessions, and superior toll-free telephone support for instructors, students, and staff.
