Gathering document analysis data
STEP 6. Collect documents
Chism (1999) identifies several types of instructional documents you might analyze for an instructional activity:
- Course policy and practices: syllabus, ground rules for discussion, course guides, instructor evaluations
- Course content: lecture notes, PowerPoint presentations, overhead transparencies, class handouts, course packets, texts, bibliographies, computer simulations, videotapes, and multimedia supplements
- Student assignments and performance assessment: tests, assignment directions and handouts, classroom exercises
- Instructor comments on student work: graded papers or tests, journals, electronic discussion forums, and email exchanges
