The Promise of Learning Analytics

by Gretchen Ritter, September 5, 2012

Yesterday we had a demonstration by Charles Thornburgh, the CEO of Civitas Learning, a company that is working on building learning analytics applications for colleges and universities. My thanks to Paul Resta and Harrison Keller for helping to make that visit possible. As we seek to support technology enhanced education at UT Austin, we are hoping to build a robust learning platform with data analysis tools that will allow faculty to have better insight into what learning activities, behaviors and resources are most strongly associated with student success. If you would like to know more about this company and what they are trying to accomplish, take a look at their website: www.civitaslearning.com.

I'd be interested in your feedback.

On another note, this week there is a story running on UT's homepage on the Course Transformation Program. Tara Doolittle tells me that "on its first day up the CTP story received 2,000 views. That's very strong." Our thanks to Tara for putting that story together. We also plan on launching a CTP twitter account later this week. Look for it at the end of the week @UT_CTP. If you have stories you'd like to see run off this account, please email your suggestions to Emily Van Duyn (emily_vanduyn@yahoo.com), who is spearheading our social media efforts.
