Credit by examination and course placement

Credit by examination
UT Austin permits students to demonstrate college-level proficiency and earn credit for introductory courses that would repeat material covered in advanced high school courses, and for independent study. A UT EID is required to register for credit by examination.

A number of lower-division courses require placement tests before registration to determine appropriate instructional levels. DIIA offers six regular on-campus testing periods.

The CLEP Open Test Center at UT Austin is open to the public, administering exams which other colleges use to award credit. Testing is offered monthly on the second Tuesday, and is conducted at the Bridgeway Building, 2616 Wichita Street, on the UT Austin campus.
