Preparing students for multiple-choice questions
1. Specify objectives or give study questions
- Give students specific study questions or topics, then draw the exam questions from those topics
- Provide many study questions that are comprehensive and cover all the important ideas in the course
- Another suggestion is to provide students with your exam blueprint
2. Reduce frustration for the creative student
- Avoid “all of these,” “none of these,” and “both A and B” answer choices.
3. Counter the “test-wise” strategies of students who don’t study
- Be aware of the general strategies students use to guess on multiple-choice exams and try to counter them
