Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness

The practice of documenting, understanding, and communicating what students learn is a crucial component of making improvements in higher education and ensuring institutional effectiveness.  Faculty and staff can use the process to identify strategies for adapting curriculum or program structures, processes, and procedures based on advances in the discipline or student service area.  In this workshop, participants will review assessment approaches and then work in groups to practice strategies for improving institutional effectiveness.

Using CIS Results to Enhance Excellence in Teaching

In this workshop, we will explore how to get more useful feedback from students on your end-of-semester Course-Instructor Survey (CIS), how to interpret your results, and how to use that feedback to improve teaching. This will be an interactive workshop with activities designed to re-conceptualize the utility of using CIS results to inform teaching and learning.

Assessing Writing

This workshop is designed for faculty and staff who are responsible for evaluating student writing related to assessment plans and will cover four main areas: using assessment methods that are already in place; setting learning outcomes; implementing your writing-related assessment methods and analyzing the results; and creating and measuring the impact of resultant changes to your program. The workshop will address the pragmatic needs of assessment as well as the necessary reflective components.
