DIIA Audio Room

DIIA Audio Room

The DIIA audio room is a small, but professionally equipped sound studio, designed for recording voice-over narration or interviews for presentations, podcasts, and other DMS-sponsored media projects.

The studio is equipped with an Apple Mac Pro-based Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) with a TASCAM FW-1082 Firewire audio mixer for recording into Apple’s Soundtrack Pro or Garageband audio software. The room has three professional Heil PR40 dynamic microphones that are equipped with shockmounts and adjustable boom arms. In addition, the room has a headphone distribution amp for monitoring while recording and Blue Sky 6.5-powered studio monitors for audio playback. The room has been treated with Auralex Acoustic panels for reducing noise and audio reflections.

The facility is available by appointment to all UT-Austin faculty, DMS-sponsored students and all DIIA staff, M-F from 8:00-5:00 pm. DIIA DMS staff will provide supervision and technical production assistance. The DIIA audio room was designed for recording only, with the DIIA multimedia lab available for additional editing and production. Appointments must be made at least 24 hours in advance in half hour increments (up to a maximum of two hours) through the DMS website. Cancellations must also be made 24 hours in advance. Be sure to bring blank CDs, DVDs, or other removeable storage to transfer your recordings once completed. Food and drink are not allowed in the recording facility.

To schedule an appointment, contact Mike DeLeon at 475-6156 or send an e-mail to mdeleon@austin.utexas.edu.
