Frequently asked questions
for Instructors and Designees
Excel questions
- Am I required to use Excel if I use eGradebook?
- No, everything can be performed through the eGradebook website without
ever using Excel. eGradebook does have an option to download
to Excel and upload from Excel,
if the instructor prefers to work with spreadsheets.
- What do I need to know about working
with a spreadsheet that I've downloaded from eGradebook?
- When a spreadsheet is downloaded from eGradebook, it can be manipulated,
and then uploaded back to eGradebook. For more information and a helpful
image, please see the downloaded Excel spreadsheet
page.
- What is important to be on the spreadsheet
when uploading it back to eGradebook?
- It is important to have the first four cells in a row that indicate
the unique number of the class and the semester. The UTEID column is
required. Finally, three cells of information are required at the top
of every column of grades that you intend to upload.
For efficiancy purposes, it is best to delete columns of grades that
have previously been uploaded before uploading. For more information
and helpful images, please see the Excel spreadsheet
to be uploaded page.
- Can I download to another spreadsheet program (not Excel)?
- Although we are certain that downloading
and uploading work well with Excel, we
have seen at least one instance where downloading and uploading with
another spreadsheet program did not work.
