Named Gold Award Winners at IITAP 2006 Showcase

Dr. Larry Abraham, with collaborators Mike Decker, Jon Dingwell, Pam Painter, Ashot Petrosian, Ken Tothero, and Mandy Youmell won the Gold Award for Teaching with Technology for their project Kinematic Analysis of Human Movement ("Biomech") and Dr. Paul Jensen won the Gold Award for Resource Development for Operations Research Models and Methods. Each award, worth $2000, was presented during UT Austin’s ninth annual IITAP awards ceremony on May 4.

The IITAP judges this year decided to create a Special Recognition Award for the Texas Politics project, developed by Dr. James Henson from the Department of Government and his development team Daniel Benner, Cristina Escutia, Eric Eubank, Tim Fackler, Daniel Garza, Michael Heidenreich, John Morris, and Suloni Robertson from Liberal Arts Information Technology Services.

Awards totaling $8500 were presented by Executive Vice President and Provost Sheldon Ekland-Olson to six faculty members during the 2006 Innovative Instructional Technology Awards Program showcase, celebrating their accomplishments on behalf of enhancing teaching and learning for their students.

Apple Computer, Inc., a longtime supporter of instructional technologies at UT Austin, donated six iPods for the leading exemplars in this year's IITAP.

UT Austin faculty and faculty-student/staff teams were invited to enter innovative instructional experiences and/or materials that were developed specifically for UT Austin courses using emerging technologies. Submitted materials were judged by a panel of experts including faculty winners from previous IITAPs, experts in instructional design, and members of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers.

IITAP is sponsored by the Office of the Provost and the Division of Instructional Innovation and Assessment (DIIA).
