Fifteen DIIA Staff Present at IOL

Elias Ponvert and Malaika Boyd present ePortfolioEducators, librarians, and technologists from campuses and departments across the UT System gathered for the first annual Innovations in Online Learning (IOL) Conference in June at the Stephen F. Austin Intercontinental Hotel in downtown Austin. The conference centered around four main areas concerning online education: teaching and learning, student and faculty services, course development, and technology.

Suzanne Rhodes presents ~FAST TexFifteen DIIA staff presented at IOL, covering a range of DIIA services: innovative instructional technology creation and use; effective integration of technology into teaching; and assessment of emerging instructional technology tools, including in-house, commercial, and open source solutions.

Mario Guerra wraps instructional design into his trainingAdapting to a new generation of learners was a recurring theme throughout the conference. Statistical data regarding the shift in traditional learning styles and materials to a techno-centered environment served as a catalyst for much active discussion and brainstorming among conference attendees.

The conference closed with a showcase of innovative resources available through UT System libraries and a course management system (CMS) "Shootout." Blackboard, Desire2Learn, eCollege, and WebCT representatives assembled one course each using their respective CMS on the spot. Although no winner was chosen, the wide range of functionalities every provider continues to add speaks to a bright future for online, hybrid, and Web-enhanced courses.
