Designing Effective Lectures for Learning

  • Wednesday, October 31, 2007
  • 9:00 – 10:30 a.m.
  • FAC 327
  • Enroll now

Many instructors forget that the purpose of giving a lecture is NOT simply to deliver information, but to help students learn and understand that information. We will explore the ways in which students learn from lectures and how you as the lecturer can help that process occur. We will analyze lectures from the student perspective and generate strategies that you can use to turn any lecture from a passive into an active learning experience.

Classroom Assessment Techniques (CATS)

  • Tuesday, November 13, 2007
  • 12:30 - 2:00 p.m.
  • FAC 327
  • Enroll now

When we make the assumption that our students progressively learn what we think they should, we are often disappointed. Gathering information about what students actually learn throughout the semester helps assure that student and teacher expectations coincide. Classroom Assessment Techniques (CATs) are easy-to-use in-class activities that garner feedback on student learning in a timely manner, and can enrich your teaching and learning experience.

Collaborative for Instructional Impact (CII)

Informal, brown-bag lunch opportunities for faculty colleagues to share and discuss teaching and learning issues. All sessions are held during the noon lunch hour in the Texas Union, room 3.116 (Texas Governors’ Room).

Grading: To Curve or Not to Curve

  • Thursday, November 8, 2007
  • 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.
  • Texas Union 3.116
