Karron Lewis on faculty at international institute for new faculty developers

Dr. Karron Lewis, Associate Director for Instructional Consulting and Research, served on the faculty for the 6th International Institute for New Faculty Developers (IINFD), which took place June 24-29 at the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, Canada.

This weeklong institute provided information and hands-on activities to equip people who are new to Faculty Instructional Development with knowledge and skills necessary to lead or work in a Teaching & Learning Center on their campuses. There were 110 participants and 16 faculty members at the Institute representing the USA, Canada, South Africa, Australia, the Palestinian Territory, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.

Various types of institutions were represented—universities, 4-year colleges, community colleges, liberal arts colleges, among others. The participants came from a variety of backgrounds and number of years of experience. Of the participants, 40 per cent had less than one year of experience, 28 per cent had one to two years experience, 9 per cent had three to four years experience, and 23 per cent had more than five years of experience.
