The University of Texas at Austin

Executive Vice President and Provost

The Provost, Dr. Steven Leslie, speaking at the 2008 Faculty Orientation

Welcome Home

DIIA’s annual orientation seminar offers support for arriving faculty.

Now that they’ve gone to Texas, arriving faculty members will be joining their new colleagues for DIIA’s annual University of Texas at Austin Faculty Orientation Seminar beginning August 18. During four morning sessions and optional afternoon technology workshops, the talented scholars arriving from around the world will settle in to life at UT Austin with presentations, panels, and sessions concerning teaching, research, and service on The Forty Acres.

The UT Austin Faculty Orientation Seminar will feature distinguished faculty, administrators, staff, and students sharing experiences, insight, and advice. At resources and benefits fairs, seminar participants will be able to ask questions and attend to the business of learning the ins and outs of life at the university and in Central Texas.

The seminar will lead off DIIA’s 2009-2010 series of events featuring collegial interchange on topics relevant to emerging and best practices in pedagogy, assessment, and instructional technology, including the ongoing Instructional Development Series, the Graduate Student Colloquium, and Instructional Technology Workshops.

At a special evening reception on August 20, the Blanton Museum of Art will host new faculty and their families from 5:00-6:30 in a beautiful, relaxed setting ideal for gathering with new colleagues. It will be an occasion for discovering the riches of the Blanton in several ways:

  • chatting with curators about their specialty areas and related collections
  • visiting the print and drawing study center
  • browsing Blanton collections and permanent exhibits, including works of America and the Americas
  • using the Blanton in classes in many disciplines
  • discovering the Blanton as an ongoing source of personal and family enrichment

DIIA invites you to register online now to attend the seminar, workshops, Blanton reception, and the resources and benefits fairs.
