Best practices for using Second Life in instruction
- Keep activities grounded with the element(s) that captured everyone’s
interest
- Keep participation in activities low stakes – minimize competition
(if the SL activity is not central part of the course design)
- Set limits on student participation/effort (if the SL activity is not
central part of the course design)
- Communicate and establish clear association/connection of activities
with course objectives – anchor activities in learning context
- Match Second Life activity to Second Life proficiency of students
- Focus tasks of activities to tap into strength of students
- Orchestrate activities in an order that builds user skill and confidence
- Provide training and support for Second Life activities with clear,
detailed instructions
- Be mindful of ownership issues
- Be prepared to accommodate change
