MedEdPORTAL & Educational Scholarship – Training Workshop
- Michael Saleh, MedEdPORTAL
MedEdPORTAL is a free publication resource provided by the Association
of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) to help medical educators and
learners publish and share educational teaching resources. MedEdPORTAL
focuses on the continuum of medical education (i.e. undergraduate,
graduate, and continuing medical education) and addresses the unique
needs of medical educators and learners. MedEdPORTAL was designed to
promote collaboration and educational scholarship by facilitating the
open exchange of high quality peer-reviewed teaching resources.
Examples of MedEdPORTAL publications include team-based learning cases,
tutorials, virtual patients, lab manuals, assessment instruments,
faculty development materials, etc.
This workshop will begin with an overview of the MedEdPORTAL system,
including examples of various types of materials and the submission and
peer review process. In addition, participants will learn how
MedEdPORTAL tracks usage and dissemination of each published submission
in an effort to measure impact and assist educators with promotion and
tenure. Each participant will consider their own educational resources
and identify potential items which may be suitable for submission to
MedEdPORTAL. Selected items will then be discussed to i) examine the
degree to which the items meet accepted standards of educational
scholarship, and ii) draft a MedEdPORTAL submission form
