Irish writer Colm Toibin (Fall 2013 residency, visiting prof Spring 2006) is the author of The Master and The Blackwater Lightship—both shortlisted for the Mann Booker Prize in Fiction—Brooklyn, winner of the Costa Award for the Novel, and The Empty Family. His other works of fiction include The South, The Heather Blazing, and The Story of the Night. He is a widely read journalist in his native Ireland and a prolific traveler and essayist, and playwright, as well. His nonfiction titles include Lady Gregory’s Toothbrush and Love in a Dark Time: And Other Explorations of Gay Lives and Literature. He lives in Dublin. He will conduct a two-week residency in fiction craft in September 2013.
