Naomi Shihab Nye
Naomi Shihab Nye (Fall 2013) is the author of over thirty books of poetry, prose and literature for young adults, including 19 Varieties of Gazelle: Poems of the Middle East, Red Suitcase, Habibi, Words Under the Words, Fuel, This Same Sky, You & Yours, Mint Snowball, and Never in a Hurry. Two new books are forthcoming in winter 2012: There Is No Long Distance Now (a collection of very short stories) and Transfer (poems). A former Lannan Fellow, a Guggenheim Fellow, and a Witter Bynner Fellow (Library of Congress), she has received a Lavan Award from the Academy of American Poets, the Isabella Gardner Poetry Award, the Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award, the Paterson Poetry Prize, four Pushcart Prizes, and numerous honors for her children’s literature. In January 2010 she was elected to the Board of Chancellors of the Academy of American Poets. She will teach First Year Seminar. She has previously taught for MCW in 1995, 2001, 2005, and 2011.
