Exemptions from the required SAT Subject Tests

You do not have to take the SAT Subject Test in Writing* if:

  • You took the Advanced Placement Examination in English LANGUAGE and Composition.
  • You are an international student who scored less than 250 on the TOEFL iBT.
NOTE: RHE 306 is required of ALL UT Austin degree plans except Plan II.

You do not have to take the SAT Subject Test in Mathematics Level 1 or Level 2 if:

  • You have a score of 3 or higher on the Advanced Placement Examination in Calculus AB or BC.

  • You have college-level math courses by transfer/dual enrollment , AND the math courses you have taken will fulfill the prerequisites of the math courses you want to take at UT Austin.

  • You are not registering for UT Austin math courses.

  • You are registering for a UT Austin math course that doesn't have an SAT Subject Test in Mathematics Level 1 score as a prerequisite (speak with an advisor in the department of your UT major).

NOTE: An SAT Subject Test in Mathematics Level 1 score is also a prerequisite to taking the following courses outside of the Math Department: CH 301 and CH 302, CS 303E and 307, and ME 210 and 210H

* UT will continue to administer the SAT Subject Test In Writing through the 2006 summer orientation session for those students who wish to seek credit for RHE 306.
