Petition and Claiming Credit

Please consult with your Academic Advisor before claiming credit!

No credit by examination will appear on your official transcript until you instruct DIIA-Student Testing Services to report it to the Registrar. To have credit reported you must petition using your UT EID. Credit by examination accepted as credit only will not affect your cumulative grade point average. You will be assessed a fee of $6 per credit hour for the credit by examination you request to be reported to the Office of the Registrar. You have several options for paying this fee. After credit has been reported to the Registrar, it cannot be changed.

Although you may petition as soon as you are admitted as a student at UT Austin, your course credit will not be recorded until after you have started classes at UT Austin. After you have begun attending classes at UT Austin, you may then petition at any time during your studies here.

If you take a course for which you have earned credit by examination prior to petitioning for that specific course, you are no longer eligible for credit by examination in that course. You must petition for your credit by examination within 10 years from the test date.

Petitioning for credit by examination that does not apply towards your degree plan may make you ineligible for a tuition rebate. See the General Information issue of the catalog, Tuition Rebates for Certain Undergraduates , for information on the University's policy for a tuition rebate and consult with your academic adviser.

PETITION DEADLINES:

DIIA-Student Testing Services reports credit by examination petitions to the Office of the Registrar on the first workday of each week. If you petition by 1:00 a.m. of the first workday of the week (Monday, unless there is a holiday), your credit by examination will appear on your transcript by the next workday (Tuesday, unless there is a holiday).

As a result of this weekly reporting of credit petitions, DIIA-Student Testing Services no longer posts specific petition deadlines. You are responsible for meeting the deadlines to submit the petitions online in time for your credit to appear on your transcript.

The petition deadline for a given semester or summer session is the last class day. No updates are made to your record for approximately two weeks after the fall and spring semesters, and for approximately one week after each summer session. If you petition by the last class day, and you are currently enrolled, your credit will appear on your grade report for that semester or summer session.

Graduating Seniors

If your certification for graduation is going to include credit by examination, check with your Dean’s office to be sure what deadlines you must meet to have credit by examination recorded on your transcript.
