REQUIRED COLLEGE BOARD SAT SUBJECT TEST IN MATHEMATICS LEVEL 1 OR LEVEL 2

We want to be as precise as possible in advising you on which courses you should take based upon your academic background and degree plan. Before you can register for most beginning-level mathematics courses, we will require most of you to take the College Board SAT Subject Test in Mathematics Level 1 or Level 2. The scores from either of these test will be used to place you in appropriate courses.

We urge you the test at a College Board Test Center in October, November, December, or January of your senior year.

There are several advantages to taking The SAT Subject Test in Mathematics Level 1 or Level 2 at a College Board Test Center:

  1. You will pay only $26 to take the Mathematics test at a College Board Test Center. If you take The SAT Subject Test in Mathematics Level 1 (UT Austin does not administer the Level 2) at UT Austin, you will pay $35, plus an additional $15.00 registration fee.
  2. You will probably be more relaxed if you take the tests in a College Board Test Center, which will likely be your own high school.
  3. Most high schools take the College Board test dates into account when planning their school activities.
  4. If you take these tests in a College Board Test Center, you will probably have more time for orientation activities when you visit UT Austin for summer orientation.
College Board test dates and registration deadlines for these SAT Subject Tests are listed at College Board Online . You may pick up registration packets from your high school counselor.

Be certain to have your scores reported to UT Austin by listing 6882 on your registration form.

If you plan to attend summer orientation, we recommend you take the tests in October, November, December, or January of your senior year so that UT Austin will have your scores by the time you attend summer orientation. If you take the tests during the May administration, do not plan to attend orientation before mid-June since UT may not have your scores by then. Scores from the June administration will probably not arrive in time for any of the summer orientation sessions.

If you have not taken the tests by January, you may take the tests on the UT Austin campus during summer orientation.

We appreciate your cooperation in taking these tests before coming to UT Austin.

If you have taken the tests at a College Board Test Center and you want to try to improve your scores, you may take The SAT Subject Test in Mathematics Level 1 at UT Austin prior to registration. UT Austin will accept the highest score regardless of when or where it was earned.
