UT Austin - Statistical Handbook 1997 - 1998

Preface
The Statistical Handbook is designed to provide University administrators and faculty with accurate and consistent information about UT Austin's student, faculty, staff, and financial characteristics. In many cases the information is disaggregated to program or department levels to facilitate use in policy making at these levels. Data for up to ten years are included where possible so that significant trends can be identified.

There have been few revisions to this year's Handbook. Revisions include the following:

  1. Data on first-time students are presented in two different ways: a) for the fall only entering cohort, and b) for students starting in the summer and continuing in the fall, as well as new fall entrants. Tables now presenting data both ways are:

Fall Enrollment of New Students by Group and Ethnicity (Number and Percent Distribution)
Fall Enrollment of New Students by Group and Residence (Number and Percent Distribution)
    Profile of First-Time Freshmen
    New Student Enrollment (Figure)
    Application/Admission/Enrollment Information for First-Time Freshmen
Application/Admission/Enrollment Information for First-Time Freshmen by Ethnicity

  2. Faculty full-time equivalents (FTEs) and salaries are now based on appointments instead of budgeted figures. Tables were updated back to 1990 to reflect this new data source. This change affects the following tables:

    Departmental Full-Time Equivalent Faculty
    Departmental Full-Time Equivalent Teaching Staff
    Average Faculty Salaries including Supplements
    Faculty Salary Information (Figure)
    Student/Faculty Ratios
    Student/Teaching Staff Ratios

The Office of Institutional Research is in the process of publishing the Statistical Handbook on the internet. At this time, the 1995-96 and 1996-97 Handbook is available electronically; the 1997-98 version will be available in early Spring 1998. The Handbook is part of the OIS homepage:
