Office of Student Financial Services

If you currently receive financial aid, your aid should continue while you are studying in Italy. Since this is a UT-Austin resident credit program and you are registered for UT courses, you are eligible to receive financial aid exactly as you would if on campus. It is recommended that you make an appointment to see your financial aid advisor if you are a current financial aid recipient before you fill out 2006 financial aid paperwork so that you can include Study in Italy program costs in your application. If you have never applied to financial aid before you should do so for 2006, you could be surprised to learn that you are eligible to receive aid.

Other Ideas

Many students who participated in the past found creative solutions to funding their trip to Italy. Some asked parents and grandparents to send them with the program in lieu of Christmas and Birthday presents. Some asked for Study in Italy as a graduation present a little bit in advance. Some obtained several small loans from various family members, including brothers and sisters already out of college, and agreed to pay them back after graduation with a small amount of interest. Some students also felt that the Study in Italy experience was so important they took out bank loans to cover the expenses, even if they had never taken out loans for college previously. Don't forget to investigate study abroad scholarships offered by the Rotary and Optimist clubs, and other fraternal or church organizations to which you or your family members may belong.
