Central Receiving Dock Relocating
Effective Sept. 21, 2009
Effective Sept. 21, 2009, the University of Texas at Austin Central Receiving dock will be relocated from its location at 15877 Long Vista Drive to a new warehouse across the street. The Central Receiving purchasing center will be updated at that time. The new address will be:
15855 Long Vista Drive #101
Austin, TX 78728
Assistance will still be available at the current location in Suite 105; although, service no longer exists at 2200 Comal Street during the transition. MagRabbit will continue to provide delivery services from the Central Receiving dock to individual departments. MagRabbit is currently working with all carriers on the relocation.
If you need any information, please contact Trina Bickford or Joe Kozik at 512-471-4266.
Why is Central Receiving relocating? Why is a second relocation required?
Although, the date has continually changed, the Central Receiving Building is scheduled to be repurposed. Access to the current dock will be eliminated.
The second move is to allow the contractor to better serve its customers, including the university.
When was the official announcement to be made? Why wasn't more advance notice provided?
Although relocation has appeared unavoidable, the actual date has been uncertain as so many parties are involved. As Central Receiving is currently outsourced, we were faced with the expiration of an existing contract and the potential increase in cost which the Purchasing Office covers completely. As soon as we could get most of the issues worked out, the date was set. Unfortunately, that was not far in advance of when it would take effect, leaving little time to notify the campus. We didn't provide notice months in advance because the relocation wasn't finalized
in time to do so.
What about individual accounts set up by vendors?
Because there is no way to track these accounts, we rely on the contract (the PO) to set the terms of the purchase. Vendors are bound by the terms of the agreement which will specify the delivery information. This has always been the procedure and will not change.
What about orders shipped to the current location?
Assistance is no longer available at the original location for Central Receiving, 2200 Comal, but will continue to be available in Suite 105 at Central Receiving's current location. The contractor for Central Receiving has a great deal of experience in working with carriers and has been providing advance notice of the move to those carriers. Their staff will monitor the current location as needed to pick up any shipments and deliver them to departments.
How will carriers know of the relocation?
A statement will appear on Purchase Orders (POs) regarding the relocation. The Central Receiving purchasing center will be revised when the relocation occurs.
How will urgent orders, such as those shipped overnight or on ice, be handled?
They will be handled the same as they are now. They will arrive at the Central Receiving dock and be delivered to individual departments by the contractor. Even shipments received at Suite 105 after Sept. 21 will be delivered by the contractor promptly, urgent or not, on the usual schedule. The orders that are shipped on ice will be stored in freezers overnight if they are received too late for the same day delivery.
What about radioactives?
Radioactive materials will continue to be delivered to the Office of Environmental Health and Safety.
What is the new address for the receiving dock?
15855 Long Vista Dr. #101, Austin, TX 78728
What about a phone number?
The phone number will remain the same, 512-471-4581.
What about the PD1 documents?
There will be no change in how the PD1 documents are processed.
What about Procard orders?
After Sept. 21, the vendors will need the new address. For items in transit and received before the vendors' records are updated, there will be staff monitoring the current Central Receiving dock to receive and process Procard orders as well as orders shipped aganist POs. the billing address for the Procards will not affected.
Where will the revised information be posted?
The information currently appears on all purchase orders. The "What's New" section of POINT Plus is being updated, and the information will be added to the Purchasing Web page as well as the Central Receiving section of our Web page.
What about large orders that are received at the Central Receiving dock but delivered to the department by UT Transportation Services?
These will continue to be handled using the same process, although Transportation Services will have to pick the items up from the new location. They have been notified of the change.
