
HIPAAHealth Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, more commonly known as HIPAA, was passed to simplify claims processing and payment in the health care industry. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is responsible for establishing mandatory privacy and security standards to comply with the requirements of the federal law. General HIPAA Training is intended to provide a general understanding of HIPAA, along with Texas SB.11, and their impact on U.T. Austin and its employees. General HIPAA Privacy Training is required to be taken by those personnel who come into contact with Protected Health Information (PHI). Training is available through the Compliance Training System, which is a part of the Office of Institutional Compliance.
