Policy Action: Custom Transit Services
Definition:

Transit agencies are increasingly looking to custom transit services to serve transit markets, defined by geographic area or segment of the population or both, where traditional fixed-route transit services are infeasible or ineffective. Some of the various custom transit strategies include shuttles, circulators, feeder buses; Dial-a-Ride (paratransit) services; custom or subscription bus service; Personal Rapid Transit (PRT), Group Rapid Transit (GRT), worker/driver bus service etc. Source/Reference: WSDOT, 2000, pp. 11-12.


Texas Applications

STS is a demand-response, shared-ride, door-through-door (see section VI for definitions) public transportation service. STS staff strives to provide accessible public transit services to eligible citizens in the safest, most efficient, effective, and friendly manner possible. Capital Metro shall provide customer-focused, effective and efficient transportation services and systems for our communities. STS shall provide demand-response, door-through-door transportation service to meet the needs of persons with disabilities and will provide service as a complement to Capital Metro's accessible Fixed Route service in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA).
