Policy Action: Interjurisdictional Agreements
Definition:

Interjurisdictional (interlocal) agreement plays an important role in securing guidance over development outside jurisdictional boundaries. The agreements are allowed in most states to permit agreements between local governments on development plans, standards, and infrastructure extensions in locations of mutual interest. The agreements may be made informally, through such mechanisms as advisory groups, or by formal, signed agreements or compacts, or by contractual understandings for specified services. Most cities can accomplish these agreements via home rule authority or via state interlocal cooperative agreement enabling statutes. Case/Example: Raleigh (NC) and Lincoln/Lancaster County (NE).
