Frequently Asked Questions - FAMIS Mobile Asset Inventory (FMAI)

  1. In the past we were encouraged to scan everything in a room, is that still an acceptable practice?
    Yes, you can continue to do this if you choose.


  2. Will I still be able to run an NVP report?
    Yes, NVP reports will continue to be available.

  3. I have equipment in areas where strong magnetic fields exist. Will this affect my PDA?
    Yes. You should never use your PDA in an area that has a magnetic field. You will need to manually locate the items, and then update them on the Equipment Detail screen outside of the magnetic field area.

  4. How do I know where the wireless areas are on campus?
    You can use the interactive campus map to locate wireless network areas on campus.

  5. Will Inventory Services continue to grant extensions for PDA usage and inventory certifications?
    No. Due to the number of scanners available, extensions can no longer be granted. Therefore, it is important that you complete your inventory and return the scanner by the assigned due date.
