Disposing of State Records Containing Confidential Information

Confidential records must be destroyed in a manner that preserves their confidentiality throughout the entire destruction process. They should never be placed in the trash or in blue recycling bins. Facilities Services (previously Physical Plant Services) should not be used for the disposal of records containing confidential information because the normal paper recycling process does not meet the confidential record destruction standards outlined by state law.
