Nursing Faculty Loan ServicesDeferments Borrowers ordered to active duty are eligible for up to 3 years of deferment. This includes service as a member of a uniformed military service of the United States, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Corps, and the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. A borrower who voluntarily joins one of the uniformed services is not eligible for deferment, nor is a borrower who is employed by one of the uniformed services in a civilian capacity. Borrowers must file a deferment form for each period of deferment at least 30 days prior to the period of deferment or the end of the initial 9-month grace period. Repayment of the loan resumes immediately following a deferment period.
