eCheck

eCheck electronic Check. A one-time payment by check that electronically withdraws funds from your checking account.

  • The bank you designate for debit withdrawal by eCheck must be in the United States.
  • Inaccurate bank information submitted by eCheck may cause bank processing errors, which leaves the user at risk for returned check fees. Please verify all ABA routing number and checking account number information with your bank before using this payment option.
  • It is extremely important that you keep your email address current in order to receive confirmation of an eCheck transaction.
  • Every bank differs when it comes to posting electronic payments. Verify with your bank the timing of when your funds may be withdrawn.

Can I use the promotional check received from my credit card company?
No. These promotional checks are usually not tied to a particular bank account and are processed differently than checks from conventional accounts. Your electronic payment using these promotional checks will not be accepted, and it will be treated as a returned check, for which we charge a $25 returned check fee. In addition, if we do not receive your payment by the deadline, we will assess late and service charges to your account.

Do I need to get permission from my bank to use eChecks?
No. Permission from your bank is not required. However, it is important to verify your routing and checking account with your financial institution before utilizing this payment option.

What is the difference between eChecks and EFT?
eCheck is a one-time electronic withdrawal of funds from your bank. EFT also allows electronic withdrawal of funds; however, you must create an account profile that stores your account information for ease in making future payments. EFT is a valuable tool if you plan to make regular payments, or receive regular deposits from the University

What if I discover an error?
Please contact Student Accounts Receivable as soon as possible, by telephone or by email at fbic@austin.utexas.edu to report any errors or problems you've experienced with e-checks.

Will I receive an e-mail notification of my transaction?
Yes. You will receive an electronic message (e-mail) each time the university initiates any transaction from your account. This e-mail will provide details of your payment transaction. Please be sure that your e-mail address is current to ensure the timely receipt of notification.

There are extra numbers on my check. Which one is the routing number?
Please note that the ROUTING NUMBER is normally printed on the lower left hand corner of your checks (always nine digits). However, anyone wishing to use the eCheck option should contact their financial institution for proper ACH routing instructions.
