Scholarship and Fellowship Services
Scholarship and Fellowship Services processes departmental fellowships and scholarships. Inquiries about nondepartmental scholarships or fellowships, including outside-source, university-wide, and National Merit scholarships or fellowships, should be directed to Student Financial Services.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting students who have been awarded departmental scholarships but have not received the funds.
- Assisting departments with processing Scholarship/Fellowship Award documents (SS1s).
- Distributing 1042S tax forms to foreign students receiving departmental scholarships.

Scholarship/Fellowship Forms
- PIF (Payee Information Form):
When the scholarship/fellowship recipient does not have a student record or is not currently enrolled, a PIF is required to verify the taxpayer number, address, and nationality.
- W-8BEN Form: If a foreign student’s native country has a tax treaty with the United States, this form allows a waiver of the 14% withholding tax. The form must completed with an advisor at the International Office.
