HRMS Tip

Why are certain characters not allowed in text fields?

To ensure the security of HRMS, certain characters are prohibited from being entered into certain text fields. This policy is in compliance with the university’s Information Security Office and the purpose of it is to prevent HRMS from being corrupted. Users will most likely notice this in large text boxes, such as the Purpose, Functions, and Qualifications for positions and for job postings. Prohibited characters will show up as underscores (_), and users will be prompted with a warning message when this happens. The list below includes characters that are currently allowed. Please note that this list is under review and may contain more characters at a later date.

Allowed characters include:

  • All letters
  • All numbers
  • Apostrophes
  • Asterisks
  • Commas
  • Colons
  • Exclamation Marks
  • Forward Slashes (/)
  • Hyphens
  • Parentheses
  • Periods
  • Plus Signs
