Position Status Rules
- If current status is ACTIVE and the position is vacant now and in the future, it can be changed to INACTIVE, ENDED, or FUTURE. If the position has never been filled, it can be changed from ACTIVE to CANCELLED.
- If current status is ACTIVE and a position is filled today or in the future, it cannot be changed to INACTIVE. It can be changed to ENDED but only if there is an end date on the appointment that is the same as or earlier than the position end date. It can be CANCELLED only if it has never been filled. It can be changed to FUTURE but only with an earliest start date that is the same as or earlier than the incumbent's start date.
- If current status is INACTIVE and the position is vacant now and in the future, it can be changed to ACTIVE or ENDED. It can be CANCELLED only if the position has never been filled.
- If current status is ENDED and the position is vacant, it can be changed to ACTIVE. It can be CANCELLED only if the position has never been filled.
- If current status is ENDED and the position is filled today, it can be changed to ACTIVE by extending the position end date. It cannot be CANCELLED or changed to FUTURE.
- If a position is CANCELLED, the status cannot be changed.
- If current status is FUTURE, the position status will automatically change to ACTIVE on the designated earliest start date. It cannot be changed to INACTIVE if the position is filled today or in the future. If it is vacant today and in the future, it can be changed to CANCELLED.
- If CURRENT status is PENDING, the position status will automatically change to ACTIVE upon final approval of the document. It cannot be changed to INACTIVE, ENDED, CANCELLED, or FUTURE because PENDING status indicates a modify document is already in process.
