Introduction

MINITAB is an easy-to-use statistical analysis and graphical presentation product. For the Macintosh and MS-Windows versions, it features a graphical user interface that allows many procedures to be completed via pop-up menus and dialog boxes. It has many statistical procedures, from the simple to the advanced. It has good high-resolution graphics. It also uses a relatively simple command language that enables the algebraic manipulation input of data in vector and matrix form. Also, MINITAB macro language allows users to customize and save their own statistical procedures.

Availability

There are three primary ways you can use Minitab. Note that to take advantage of any of these opportunities, you must be a faculty, staff, or student member of the University of Texas system.
1. Acquire a copy of Minitab for your own computer(s)
You can acquire Minitab for your own computer on several operating systems including:

at reduced educational pricing through the Computation Center's Software Distribution Services.

 2. Use Minitab at the Student Microcomputer Facility (SMF)
Minitab is installed on the Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh systems at the SMF (Student Microcomputer Facility) . There are 48 Dell 486 and 148 Apple Macintosh computers at the SMF; each has the capability of accessing Minitab.

3. Use Minitab on a Computation Center timesharing system
Minitab is installed on the Center's VMS system. To be able to use this system, you must first acquire an account to use it. Note: This account validation must be for code CVC, not SVS. Graduate student and faculty researchers should check with their departments, as many departments issue accounts where the department will share in paying the costs of the account.

If you are uncertain as to which of these methods of accessing Minitab is most optimal for your own needs, contact a statistical software consultant for assistance.
