1. Acquire a copy of Minitab for your own computer(s)If you are uncertain as to which of these methods of accessing Minitab is most optimal for your own needs, contact a statistical software consultant for assistance.
You can acquire Minitab for your own computer on several operating systems including:
at reduced educational pricing through the Computation Center's Software Distribution Services.2. Use Minitab at the Student Microcomputer Facility (SMF)
Minitab is installed on the Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh systems at the SMF (Student Microcomputer Facility) . There are 48 Dell 486 and 148 Apple Macintosh computers at the SMF; each has the capability of accessing Minitab.3. Use Minitab on a Computation Center timesharing system
Minitab is installed on the Center's VMS system. To be able to use this system, you must first acquire an account to use it. Note: This account validation must be for code CVC, not SVS. Graduate student and faculty researchers should check with their departments, as many departments issue accounts where the department will share in paying the costs of the account.
MINITAB contains an extensive online help facility. If you
are using MINITAB on a microcomputer, click on the Help menu item
from any MINITAB window menu bar. If you are using MINITAB on node Violet
of the VMS cluster, type HELP at the MTB> prompt.
MINITAB manuals are another source of useful information.
A full set is in room 223 of the Student Microcomputer Facility (SMF),
as well as in the Undergraduate Library at the Flawn Academic Center (FAC).
There are also many introductory and advanced statistical texts that feature MINITAB examples, and several of these are available in UT Austin libraries. To search for such texts, use the UTNETCAT online library catalog.

If you wish to purchase your own copies of the manuals, you can do so by contacting Minitab directly at their website.
We are frequently asked, "Why don't you sell copies of the Minitab manuals since you site license the Minitab software?" We cannot carry the Minitab documentation because not everyone who acquire the software elects to purchase documentation, which makes accurately guaging demand impossible. Furthermore, the software vendors do not reimburse us for inventories of manuals left over from previous releases of the software whenever a new release of software is sent to us. For this reason, most bookstores do not stock software manuals, although one may special order manuals from many booksellers.
Usage notes are short documents (usually one to four pages)
on specific software usage topics. There are few usage notes specific to
MINITAB. However, you may find some of the available short documents quite
useful.
You can look at and browse through particular types of statistical software
documents.

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) are another source of useful
information for MINITAB users. Statistical Services maintains a searchable
database of such questions and their answers. Once you have obtained this
information, you may download it to your machine and save or print it.

There are sources of MINITAB and statistical information available
on the Internet. Some of these sources are accessible through the Gopher
and World Wide Web information servers.
You can also use mailing lists to communicate with other statistical
software users and share ideas. The STAT-L discussion list deals
primarily with general statistical questions.
Connect to current and archived discussions.
If you want to receive electronic mail messages from this list on a
regular basis, you may subscribe to it. To subscribe, send a mail message
to the list server, using for the text of your message one or more of the
following command lines:
sub stat-l firstname lastnameThe firstname and lastname specifications are for your actual name, not your computer user ID or E-mail name. The digests command is recommended, since the volume of mail on this list can be quite large. Setting this option means that instead of receiving many single messages individually, you will receive one annotated digest containing all of the messages sent that day.set stat-l digests
Send the mail message to:
listserv@uga.cc.uga.eduOnce you have received a message confirming your subsciption, you will start receiving E-mail messages from the list and can send E-mail messages to the list as well. To send a message to the STAT-L mailing list, use the address:
stat-l@vm1.mcgill.caNote carefully the difference between sending a message to the listserv and sending a message to stat-l.
A the SMF, the proctors can help you with the basics of running
an application: launching it, opening and saving files, printing, and quitting
the application. To call a proctor to your station, use the "Help Request"
application on the desktop.
Questions that the proctors cannot answer will be referred to the on-site consultant. If the on-site consultant cannot answer your question, it may be referred to an applications consultant.
The Computation Center provides consulting services for a
wide range of applications by electronic mail, telephone, and office visits.
