TCC FREE Lecture: The Brave New World of Online Education

February 26, 2014
6:30 pm–8:30 pm

Join the revolution in online education and learn about the UT Psychology Department’s first synchronous massive online course or “SMOC.”

Computer-based online courses are the future of education. Devised by Pennebaker and his colleague Sam Gosling, the SMOC is turning out to be more effective than traditional classroom teaching for large courses. By relying on repeated testing and in-class online discussions, students perform better on tests both in the SMOC and in the other classes they are taking. Particularly exciting is that the traditional achievement gap between wealthier and poorer students drops considerably among students taking a SMOC. Learn how college teaching and learning are about to change forever.
