Jeff D. Treichel, CPA
CIE’s Executive Director, ad interim
Jeff D. Treichel, CPA, is CIE’s Executive Director ad interim. He also serves as CIE’s chief business officer and compliance officer. Prior to joining CIE in 2008, Treichel served two years as director of finance and resource planning with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). His career started with the university in 1988 as an internal auditor; he went on to hold various positions including assistant dean with CIE, assistant dean with the College of Fine Arts, and assistant to the vice president and chief financial officer.
Treichel earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from The University of Texas at Austin with a major in accounting, and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the State of Texas.
Deputy Director for Information Technology
Yuteh Ma is the Deputy Director for Information Technology for CIE. He is responsible for IT related operations and strategic technology directions for the division. Ma has been a part of CIE since 1989, working in a variety of positions, including computer programmer, systems analyst, senior systems analyst and assistant dean.
Ma holds a bachelor’s degree in Electronic Automation from Shanghai, China, and a BA in Computer Science from The University of Texas at Austin. Prior to arriving in the United States, Ma worked in the research unit of an imaging and photographic materials company in Shanghai, China.
Wayne M. Butler, Ph.D.
Director of Innovation, Strategic Development and Research
Dr. Butler launched his career as a high school English teacher and has taught at The University of Michigan, Texas Tech, The University of Texas and Austin Community College in classrooms, online and blended formats. Between 1987 and 2001, he co-founded and led The Daedalus Group, an educational software and consulting firm. Dr. Butler’s CIE roles have ranged from Lead Instructional Designer to Assistant Director of CIE’s University Extension. Currently, he conducts research on emerging trends, best practices and technologies to help shape CIE’s innovations in online distance education.
Dr. Butler earned a Masters of Arts and Ph.D. in English Curriculum and Instruction from The University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Science in English Education from The State University of New York at Oneonta.
Ben Post, MBA
As the Finance Manager for CIE, Ben Post is responsible for financial reporting and analysis conducted by the office, as well as reviewing the reporting activities of CIE’s units, reviewing and drafting agreements, and assisting the Deputy Director for Finance and Administration in financial matters. Post began working at the university in August 2004; he has held positions in the International Office, the Institute of Latin American Studies and the K-16 Education Center. He holds a Master of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Finance (Magna cum Laude) from Texas State University.
Cindy Story, PHR
HR and Administrative Manager
As part of the leadership team, Cindy Story provides human resource and administrative oversight for CIE. She began her career at the university in October 1996 when she started work in what was once the Distance Education Center, currently the K-16 Education Center. She has also held positions with Continuing Education and the Division of Instructional Innovation and Assessment (DIIA) before assuming her current role. Story holds a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Texas at Austin in addition to a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification.
Michael Sullivan, MA
Manager of Operations
Michael Sullivan joined the CIE leadership team in May 2011, and handles business operations and special projects for the Executive Director and the enterprise units. He began working in higher education in 1999, and formerly held positions in marketing, recruitment, admissions and student affairs for Columbia University in New York City. Before relocating to Austin in 2011, he owned and operated several businesses in Massachusetts.
Sullivan earned a Master of Arts in Education Administration from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma.
Denise L. Fitch
Denise Fitch serves as both Administrative Assistant to Jeff Treichel and receptionist for CIE office. She previously worked with UTemps at The University of Texas at Austin in various departments including the Petroleum Extension Service (PETEX) on the Pickle Campus, Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering and The President’s Office. She joined the CIE leadership team in August 2011.
DeCarlos R. Roberson
DeCarlos Roberson began working for Facility Services at The University of Texas in Austin in 2003. After four years, he transferred to University Services, now known as Document Solutions, to fulfill mail clerk duties for university-wide mail services. In fall 2007, he accepted the position of mail clerk for the Division of Continuing and Innovative Education, where he is a highly valued team member.
