Cancer and the Standards of Practice for Medical Interpreters: Medical Interpreter Training Seminar (MITS)

Course Details

This course is Module 3 of the Medical Interpreter Training Seminar (MITS). This 10 hour course will substantially improve the ability to interpret effectively on behalf of Spanish-speaking patients. It will cover linguistic and culture aspects of medical interpreting that if not executed correctly could lead to loss of vital information and dire patient consequences. The 40-hour curriculum is divided into four modules to accommodate various learning styles. Upon completing all four modules, participants will qualify to take the National Board for Certification of Medical Interpreters Exam.

Objective

Participants will understand the major federal regulations that pertain to medical interpreting, the proper role of medical interpreters and accepted standards of practice, and the major ethical dilemmas faced by medical interpreters.
