Day One - Morning Session

Understanding Basic Accounting Principles

  • Discuss various types of Business Entities – Sole Proprietor, Partnership, Corporation, LLC
  • Discuss various Account types – Assets, Liabilities, Equity, Income, Cost of Goods Sold, Expense
  • Discuss Chart of Accounts
  • Discuss how double sided accounting works – Debits/Credits
  • Discuss cash versus accrual reporting
  • Discuss basic accounting reports and how to interpret them
  • Discuss basic accounting ratios

Introducing QuickBooks

  • Discuss different versions of QuickBooks, pros/cons of each version
  • Discuss various ways to navigate software – Home Page, Custom Icon Bar, Menu Bar, Keyboard Shortcuts
  • Discuss Forms, Lists, Registers used in QuickBooks processes
  • Discuss various QuickBooks file types, learn process of Backing Up and Restoring Company Files
  • Discuss how to use the Help and Support features within the QuickBooks software

Day One - Afternoon Session

Working with Customers in QuickBooks

  • Discuss how to manage the Customer Center and the Customer: Jobs List
  • Discuss how QuickBooks uses items in sales transactions for services and products sold to customers
  • Discuss using sales receipts and invoices to track customer sales in QuickBooks
  • Discuss how to receive payment from customers using various methods of payment
  • Discuss how to create deposits in QuickBooks
  • Discuss how to generate customer statements
  • Discuss various customer-related reports

Day Two - Morning Session

Working with Vendors in QuickBooks

  • Discuss how to manage the Vendor Center and the Vendor List
  • Discuss how to enter and pay bills in QuickBooks
  • Discuss how to enter transactions for withdrawals made by check, debit card, credit card, ATM or Electronic Transfer
  • Discuss how to track information for vendors that require a 1099-MISC form issued
  • Discuss various vendor-related reports

Banking in QuickBooks

  • Discuss how to reconcile a checking account
  • Discuss how to reconcile a credit card account
  • Discuss bank reconciliation reports

Day Two - Afternoon Session

Creating a New QuickBooks Company File

  • Discuss how to choose the best Start Date for your company
  • Discuss the EasyStep Interview
  • Customize the QuickBooks File further by editing the Chart of Accounts, Adding Customers, Vendors, Items
  • Discuss checklist for items needed to complete the Company File Setup
  • Discuss setting up additional users with different access levels

Creating Reports in QuickBooks

  • Discuss different types of QuickBooks Reports – Accounting and Business Management
  • Discuss customizing reports using filters
  • Discuss memorizing frequently run reports
  • Discuss using the Find Feature in QuickBooks
