Course Details

This course will help the small business owner, and front-line managers, supervisors, or entry-level HR staffs effectively handle issues related to performance management, retention, and the latest updates in labor laws.

Leave this workshop with a common dictionary of HR terms that can be applied in your small business and an understanding of the essentials of human resources. Class activities introduce concepts that you can use right away.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to understand:

  1. Fundamentals of HR management systems
  2. Laws, compliance, and liability

Small Business Success Skills Certificate Program

This class is eligible for the Small Business Success Certificate Program. Participants who complete six classes will receive a framed gold seal Small Business Success Certificate jointly from both The University of Texas at Austin Professional Development Center and City of Austin Small Business Development Program.

Rationale

Understanding the human resource legalities is necessary for any small business owner. This course will enable students to apply learned concepts in complying with basic HR requirements for their own business, and to effectively manage people in a challenging environment.
