PETEX: Training for 65 Years and Going Strong

The Petroleum Extension Service (PETEX) is a unit of the Division of Continuing Education at The University of Texas at Austin and has been training companies and individuals since 1944. Headquartered at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus north of the main university campus, PETEX develops, produces, and delivers technical and nontechnical training courses, publications, and audiovisual aids for the oil and gas industry.

PETEX conducts hands-on training courses at:
    • The Houston Training Center at Lone Star College, North Harris campus
    • The West Texas Training Center on The University of Texas-Permian Basin
       campus in Odessa
    • Client locations globally

Training courses, materials, and publications are developed:
    • To industry standards
    • For individuals requiring fundamental and advanced knowledge of petroleum
       industry operations

Our mission is to ensure continued value to the energy industry by providing up-to-date, quality courses and publications to meet clients’ needs. PETEX, together with the guidance and support of its Advisory Board, serves as an ambassador for the industry and continues to deliver the best-of-class training solutions.

Although PETEX receives valuable support from The University of Texas at Austin and the Division of Continuing Education, its operational funding is derived solely from fees for course enrollments and publication sales. No state funds are used to produce training courses or materials.
