Every day thousands of barrels of oil are transferred from leases to pipelines. Every barrel must be account for accurately, and that means the quantity must be measured and the quality determined. To do this, the producer and the carrier can use a gauger and his assorted tools, or they can use a LACT, or lease automatic custody transfer, unit. This video shows the equipment making up a typical LACT unit, tells how each component works and its purpose, and covers field maintenance procedures.
