In almost every deep-well completion today, liners are used to case off the open hole; to control water, gas production, and loose or sloughing formations; and to isolate zones of lost circulation or high pressure. Getting a liner down to where you want it and holding it in place until it is cemented involves a lot of drilling and cementing know-how plus some intricate equipment. If not effectively cemented, the well’s capability to produce will likely be reduced and high workover-service can be expected. This video defines liners, tells why they are used, describes tools needed to set them, and discusses problems encountered and how to overcome or minimize them. Produced in cooperation with Halliburton. 1980.
