Offshore Rig Abandonment

Offshore drilling rigs are often a long way away from land. In fact, it’s pretty likely that the rig will not be in sight of the shoreline. Due to the hazardous nature of the work, there could be a time when personnel have to abandon the rig. An explosion, collision, uncontrollable fire, or other disaster could make it necessary for personnel to leave the rig and wait for rescue. This training video provides an overview of the safety procedures, equipment, and possible hazards involved in a rig abandonment situation. Produced in cooperation with the International Association of Drilling Contractors. 1980, 25 minutes, 105 slides, script, workbook.
