ordering instructions

This video series describes functions, types, measurement and testing of drilling fluid. the final installment describes how to detect, prevent, and correct differential pressure sticking and lost circulation.

Part I: Functions

Drilling mud, an integral part of any drilling operation, is a complex mixture of water or oil, clays, and chemicals. It performs several functions, including lifting cuttings out of the hole, cleaning the bottom of the hole, suspends the cuttings during tripping, and cooling the drilling equipment. This introductory video to the Rotary Drilling Fluids series discusses ten functions of drilling mud and helps rotary helpers and derrickhands truly understand them. Produced with assistance from Dresser-Magcobar. 1983, 19 minutes, 119 slides, video transfer from slides. Comes with a script and a workbook.

Cat. no. 65.1022, DVD. $110.00

Part II: Water-Base Muds

There are three basic classes of drilling fluids: water-base, oil mud, and gaseous fluids like air, gas, mist, foam, and aerated muds. This part of the program covers each phase of water-base muds and gives the purpose and control of each. Produced with assistance from Dresser-Magcobar. 1977, 29 minutes, 101 slides, video transfer from slides. Comes with a script and a workbook.

Cat. no. 65.1023, DVD. $110.00

Part III: Oil Muds

Oil muds allow a full-gauge hole to be drilled through shale, salt, and anhydrite without upsetting the mud properties. These muds also offer maximum protection to the producing zone. This third video in the series discusses the uses and composition of and the precautions to exercise when using oil-base and invert-oil muds. Produced with assistance from Dresser-Magcobar. 1976, 24 minutes, 80 slides, video transfer from slides. Comes with a script and a workbook.

Cat. no. 65.1024, DVD. $110.00

Part IV: Field Testing

Tests are made in the field to check on the properties of the drilling mud and to ensure that the mud is performing as desired. Extensive documentation is kept and tests performed to keep the drilling mud doing its duty efficiently. This video tells how to run each test on the API mud report form and why tests are valuable. Produced in cooperation with Dresser-Magcobar. 1977, 21 minutes, 78 slides, video transfer from slides. Comes with a script and a workbook.

Cat. no. 65.1025, DVD. $110.00

Part V: Hole Problems

Sometimes, things do not go smoothly on the drilling rig. One common problem is a drill pipe sticking to the side of the wellbore. This final installment in the program tells how to detect, prevent, and correct differential pressure sticking and lost circulation. Produced with assistance from Dresser-Magcobar. 1976, 22 minutes, 75 slides. Comes with a script and a workbook.
